In an opinion piece for the BBC, leading autism expert Simon Baron-Cohen questions the consequences of prenatal testing for autism, which could be available in the future. Baron-Cohen points out that many individuals with autism have an affinity for math and details. If such a population were identified in the womb, that could lead to terminated pregnancies or treatments to minimize or eliminate some of these valuable characteristics, he says.
