Discrimination Claims Up As Economy Hits Workers

Employment discrimination claims — including those related to disability — grew 15 percent from 2007 to 2008.

The jump follows years of steady or decreasing claim reports, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. It could be due to the economic decline, improved understanding of employee rights or stronger action by investigators, officials say.

Cases could continue to increase as more companies face economic strains, experts say. That’s because the costs of adapting for a worker with a disability could become harder to justify, reports The Denver Post. To read more click here.
