Stimulus Checks On Track For May Delivery

The $250 one-time stimulus payments included in last month’s economic stimulus package for Social Security recipients are on track to be sent in May.

The payments will be sent separately from regularly monthly payments, but will be distributed using the same method. No action must be taken to receive the stimulus money.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients are eligible for the stimulus payment unless they receive Medicaid in care facilities. The payments will also go to adult beneficiaries of Social Security. Only one $250 payment is available per person, even if the individual qualifies under multiple programs. To obtain a stimulus payment, you must have been eligible for a qualifying program during November 2008, December 2008 or January 2009.

Payments will be made on a rolling basis during the month of May. If a payment is not received by June 4, 2009, contact the Social Security Administration.

“We are on track to issue these recovery payments earlier than the statute requires,” says Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue. “Soon more than $13 billion will be in the hands of more than 50 million Americans.”
