Judge Upholds 100-Year Sentence Despite Low IQ Of Defendant

An 18-year-old who plead guilty to sexually molesting a 6-year-old boy should spend the next 100 years in jail, a Texas judge said Tuesday. That, despite the fact that the teenager has the mental capacity below that of a first grader.

The judge initially ruled in February, but this week refused to grant a new trial or new sentencing for Aaron Hart. Attorneys for Hart argued that the court appointed attorney representing him at trial failed to adequately represent him since there was no evidence brought regarding his limited mental abilities.

Hart has an IQ of 47. Attorneys for Hart are now appealing, reports the Los Angeles Times.
