Actress Katherine Heigl is adopting a baby with special needs.
The Grey’s Anatomy star announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday that she and her husband, Josh Kelley, are adopting a nearly 10-month-old girl from Korea.
“It was meant to take a long time,” Heigl said of the process of getting the baby to the United States. But the baby’s special needs sped up the process and she now expects the baby to come soon. “She’s a special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster. They wanted to get her to us as quick as possible.”
The baby is being named after Heigl’s mother and sister — Nancy and Leigh — and will be called Naleigh.

This is nice and all, and a great opportunity for the child. But, what about all the children in the United States that need a home and parents that will care for them? Why do these Hollywood types keep going overseas to adopt? When I see these stories announcing a new adoption I think it is just a stunt to increase that person’s popularity in that country or with a certain group here in our country.
I am not against them doing this, as I said what a great opportunity for that precious child, but maybe they should try here at home first. Maybe they did. Maybe the bureaucratic of our system made it to hard or expensive for them to do. Maybe it is not those in Hollywood, maybe it is our adoption system here.
