Efforts to boost disability employment must start with the federal government, President Barack Obama said Monday in announcing a series of new employment initiatives.
Obama is asking a task force to identify best practices among government agencies for recruiting, hiring, retaining and advancing employees with disabilities. A government job fair this spring specifically for people with disabilities will showcase opportunities, Obama said.
The Department of Justice will also produce a video educating the public about common myths related to employing individuals with disabilities.
The announcement coincides with National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
“Across this country, millions of people with disabilities are working or want to work, and they should have access to the support and services they need to succeed,” Obama said. “As the nation’s largest employer, the federal government and its contractors can lead the way by implementing effective employment policies and practices that increase opportunities and help workers achieve their full potential.”

Thank you President OBama!
I have been searching far and wide for legal assistance to help a Rehab 504 case.
DOJ ADA hotline doesn’t even know what it is.
LOCAL STATE and NATIONAL BARS HAVE NO LISTINGS FOR THIS EXPERTISE.
With more budget cuts the State Voc Rehab is using even more discrimination, bad management practice and excuses to not help even more people disabled be able.
Cap advocates funded by the state are conflicted. One told me he believed his job was to stop appeals.
They are NOT fully educated or legally trained. They have no legal ethics training. They do not have the same training or skill level or resources as the state employees they would defend against . They have conversations and make agreements and don’t tell the client. They are often persons with disability who were unable to access voc. rehab services themselves.
So, while the state funds them, or controls fed funds, to pretend there is there is due process, it is set up to fail many and no accountability insures there is not due process.
We need to set up standards and accountability at the federal level.
We need skilled advocates that are more than window dressing.
Thanks, Macdoodle, you have said what I’m unable to say. I completely agree with what you have said.
We have NO VOICE in these insipid agencies. This has NOTHING to do with “accessability”. THIS IS AN ISSUE OF DISCRIMINATION and fraud. DISCRIMINATION FROM THE GOVERNMENT AND THE LYING, ENDLESS, DOUBLE TALKING GOVERNMENT AGENCIES.
And STILL no response. Must be a government website.
