Sarah Palin is calling on President Barack Obama to fire his chief of staff after a report last week quoted Rahm Emanuel using the word “retarded.”

“Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the ‘N-word’ or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking,” Palin wrote on her Facebook page.

The former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate has a son with Down syndrome.

Palin’s comments follow outrage last week by a host of advocacy groups after The Wall Street Journal quoted Emanuel using the phrase “f—ing retarded.”

In response, Emanuel called Special Olympics CEO Tim Shriver to apologize last Wednesday, a move first reported by Disability Scoop. Shriver accepted Emanuel’s apology.

“The White House remains committed to addressing the concerns and needs of Americans living with disabilities and recognizes that derogatory remarks demean us all,” a White House official told Disability Scoop at the time.
