For the sixth straight year, charges of job bias based on disability increased in 2011, according to new data from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In a report released Tuesday, the EEOC said nearly 100,000 claims were filed with the federal agency in fiscal year 2011 alleging job bias or discrimination due to race, sex, national origin, religion or disability, among other categories.

Of those, 25,742 charges were based on disability status, the highest number reported since the EEOC began enforcing the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1992.

Job bias claims among people with disabilities have grown in each of the last six years. Last year’s figure represented a 2.3 percent increase over 2010. What’s more, disability claims have almost doubled since 2005 when 14,893 charges were recorded.
