A Texas waiter is getting props from far and wide after refusing to serve a customer who made a negative remark about those with disabilities.
Kim Castillo says she was dining with her family — including 5-year-old Milo, who has Down syndrome — at Laurenzo’s in Houston last week when a group seated next to them moved to another table and then quickly left the restaurant.
Castillo later learned that the group left after telling the waiter serving both tables that, “special needs children need to be special somewhere else.” The server, Michael Garcia, promptly responded that he could not serve them.
News of the incident quickly spread, with Garcia garnering praise from both regular restaurant customers and from across the Internet for standing up for the boy with Down syndrome, reports KTRK, the Houston ABC affiliate.

Hooray for Michael Garcia! Now *that’s* a good guy.
I second Susan’s post!
It is wonderful to know that some people do not view a person with a disability as unacceptible. Michael has his head on straight!!
What a powerful display of true class and character! Way to go Mr. Garcia!
As a parent of a wonderful special needs daughter, I am so proud of this waiter. When read his story, it was very heartfelt. God Bless him.
All restaurants need to have this sort of policy as I myself being an intelligent person in a wheelchair have been treated badly because I have a disability. Congrats to the waiter on his manners and fore-thought about not waiting on people who discriminate.
what the waiter did was great what a success story to say the least that this kid was actually treated like a normal citizen THAT’S GREAT
woo hoo!
Thank you Michael Garcia! We need more people like you in this world. With manners like that, it should be the “offended” diners who are embarrassed to eat dinner in a nice restaurant, not a special needs child and his family.
We wish that more Michael Garcia’s exist to stand up to ignorant people!!!
There should be more people like Mike.
Thank God for People like Michael Garcia! I’m glad that he did the right thing for Milo. And as for the other family that was rude to that child, they should know better than to judge and put him down like that. I’m glad that the waiter stood up for what was right and for the customers that agree with him. Kudos to Laurenzo’s Resturant for letting Mr. Garcia keep his job. :)
