It’s official: We’re in a recession. And we have been for a year now, the government says. The news is no surprise, especially for people with disabilities who are being hit from all angles.

Last month Disability Scoop looked at the economic toll on government funded programs benefiting people with disabilities (see story here). Now we look at the human toll.

• In Illinois five residents with developmental disabilities are being forced from their long-time group home because the non-profit that runs it can no longer afford to keep the home open, reports The Wall Street Journal. To read more click here.

• Meanwhile, a new group home planned for Corning, N.Y. is in limbo, leaving the six teens scheduled to live in the home and their families anxious, reports The Corning Star Gazette.

• In New York City a woman with cerebral palsy faced eviction this year when investments in the fund set up long-ago by her parents tanked, reports The New York Times. To read more click here.
