Next time you’re wondering whether or not you took your daily dose of medication, fear not. A new generation of pills could be on the way complete with microchips inside to document whether or not you missed a dose.

A chip about 1 millimeter in size would be inserted within the medication. The chip would send an electric charge to a patch on the person’s back when the pill is in the stomach. The patch records the time the pill is taken and other vital health statistics. The data is then transmitted wirelessly to a secure Web page so that the doctor, patient or caregiver can accurately monitor pill intake and any effects.
