A Texas school district is taking a hard line against a family who brought legal action over their child’s special education program — four years after the family gave up, the district is suing to recover legal expenses.

The parents of Chuka Chibuogwu, who has autism, took on the Alief Independent School District claiming that their son was not receiving the education he was entitled too. Eventually the family dropped their case, but Alief didn’t back down. Instead the school district sued the family in federal court seeking to recoup legal expenses from the matter.

District officials say they are just trying to recover taxpayer funds. Meanwhile, critics question who will be the next target of the school district’s legal team.

As for the Chibuogwu family, they say they will be forced into bankruptcy if the district is successful, reports Fox 26, the Houston Fox affiliate. To read click here.
