Three countries are in the final running to host the 2019 Special Olympics, the organization said this week.

Australia, Germany and South Africa are being considered for the World Summer Games.

The Special Olympics Games Committee will conduct site visits and representatives from each of the three countries will make a final pitch before a firm decision is made regarding the 2019 games this December, officials said.

Alternating winter and summer games are held every two years in a different locale around the world, attracting thousands of athletes with disabilities.

Next year winter games will take place in South Korea and Los Angeles will play host to the summer games in 2015.
