Zack Prince loves receiving snail mail. So for his birthday, Prince’s mom put out a Facebook request for cards and boy have people responded.
Prince’s 24th birthday is still nearly two weeks away, but already the man with Down syndrome from Cusseta, Ga. has received almost 200 cards — most from strangers — from as far away as Indiana, Pennsylvania and Missouri.
More than 700 people have shared the initial Facebook post from Prince’s mother, Jerrie Worrell, about her son’s big day on March 25. While Prince doesn’t completely understand the social media movement that’s inspired the influx of mail, Worrell says he loves receiving the correspondence which he reads and displays.
“It doesn’t just make his day. It makes his year,” Worrell told the (Columbus, Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer. To read more click here.

How nice; big point for Mom. But….
…there goes one of my favorite terms when pushing for associational supports for people, like my son, in “supported living” arrangements: who will send the birthday cards when I’m gone? I’d say that to illustrate the need for people to be sufficiently connected to my guy to want to send him a card – little did I imagine a face-book stunt like this in the future.
So the question is, who will send him a card next year? And who will know enough about him to make this anything more than a hallmark money-maker?
I think this is great! Zack on behalf of a non profit organization that I work with, the Board of Directors of Claudy’s House for Developmentally Challenged Adults wish you a Happy Birthday and your card is in the mail! It’s the small things we can do for others that sometimes helps us to feel important and worthy. Hats off to Zack’s mom!
