The number of special education teachers who leave the profession or move to other areas of teaching is higher than in nearly any other area of education. And that means students with disabilities are likely to experience inconsistency and learn from unqualified individuals as school districts across the country struggle to keep special education positions filled.

Meanwhile the number of students needing special education far outpaces the number of teachers moving into the profession.

But at one school where class sizes are small and staff get lots of support, all seven of the new special education teachers hired three years ago are still in the classroom and that’s progress, albeit one teacher at a time, reports The Washington Post. To read more click here.
