There’s no question that unemployment is on the upswing these days. And, if past recessions are any indication, a higher proportion of people with disabilities will find themselves without work as compared to the general population.

Layoffs of people with disabilities are already up, advocates say. In 2007 employment among those with disabilities was at 36.9 percent, down from 37.7 percent the year before. Meanwhile the employment rate for other workers remained consistent. As one advocate put it, “people with disabilities tend to be the last hired and the first fired,”reports U.S. News and World Report. To read more click here.
