World’s Largest Clothing Retailer To Double Its Disability Employment
The owner of Zara is committing to dramatically increase employment of people with disabilities throughout its operations.
Inditex, the Spanish company behind Zara and a handful of other brands, says that it intends to double the number of people with disabilities in its workforce in the next two years.
The hiring push will increase inclusion in stores, warehouses, offices and across Inditex’s logistics platforms worldwide, officials said, with more than 1,500 people with disabilities expected to be hired.

Inditex said it plans to exceed any disability employment requirements in the jurisdictions where it operates. In places where there are no such mandates, the company indicated that it will strive to have people with disabilities account for at least 2% of its employees.
García Maceiras, CEO of Inditex, made the pledge to grow disability employment during a meeting this month with the director-general of the International Labour Organization, a United Nations agency. At the meeting, Inditex joined the agency’s Global Business and Disability Network, a group of employers committed to 10 principles of disability inclusion.
“Disability inclusion in the workplace is a core component of our commitment to people,” Maceiras said. “Diversity, fairness and inclusion are values we all embrace, values we pursue day-to-day, in order to have an impact within Inditex, as well as all around us: our pledge is to design opportunities for everyone.”
